“I am in you and you in me, mutual in divine love”
This vibrant sampler is one of a series of “Little Gems” that are available as a .pdf download from Hands Across the Sea Samplers.
The sampler, designed and stitched by Nicola as a Valentine’s Day gift for her husband, has been inspired by samplers in her private collection. Nicola chose colours that are taken from her husband’s favourite shirt. The focus of the sampler is the sentiment:
Thy love divine that made me thine
Will keep me thine forever
Over the years and centuries, Valentine’s Day has been a religious celebration, an ancient ritual day, and a commercial holiday. All that change means that the meaning of Valentine’s Day is truly whatever you want it to be!
The sampler would also make a gorgeous wedding sampler, a sampler to commemorate a wedding anniversary or just to celebrate love.
Nicola invited a friend, Kathy Born, to take her design and play with different colours and to add her own embellishments.
This is Kathy’s version. We look forward to seeing your version.
The design is suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability. The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 threads and rice stitch. Your version of Thy Love Divine should be whatever you want it to be, so that it reflects your taste and is “yours”. You can choose either linen, Linaida, or Aida in the count and colour that appeals to you.
