Everything we learn leads to something further, it gives us the power to do something beyond ourselves.

This little sampler is a learning exercise. The graph has no thread legend or stitch instructions. I want you to choose your own colours and fabric from your stash.

You can use use either Aida or linen. The stitch count is 266 x 49. You will need to work out the size of your fabric as this workshop is focused on learning all aspects of the project. Hands Across the Sea Sampler’s has a fabric calculator which can be accessed HERE.

You will need 7 different colours but feel free to be creative and amend the colours or number of colours. Putting together a palette of colours is part of the learning experience.

Access to the stitch tutorials will be via Hands Across the Sea Sampler’s YouTube account. Each week a new stitch tutorial will be released starting on May 19, 2024.

The stitches we will cover in depth are:

  • Starting your thread.
  • Cross stitch which will include cross stitch over one and two threads, and two versions of reversible cross stitch (marking stitch).
  • Running stitch.
  • Double running stitch.
  • Back stitch.
