Scissors create great excitement amongst needleworkers. Collecting them can become an addictive hobby.
Monsieur Jean- Marie Roulet from Nogent in France makes very special scissors. He is probably the greatest scissor maker in the world.
We only know of one online outlet for these scissors The French Needle.
We think that these have to be our all time favorite.
They come in a custom made oak case unique to Monsieur Roulet.
Another talented French scissor maker is Emmanuel Jammas and although we are not aware of him having an online store he can be contacted via email emmanuel.jammas@wanadoo.fr
As Sandra is Australian we cannot fail to include Scissoroo. These scissors feature the iconic Australian kangaroo.
For every day use Nicola uses an inexpensive 2 ½ inch pair of scissors (far left) that are sharp and practical.
Do you have a favorite pair of scissors that you can share with us?
I love this post, as scissors has been very much on my mind lately. I have misplaced my favorite pair, which are golden owls. I like their weight, but they’re beginning to get a bit dull–well, they were before I misplaced them. Time to find them and have them sharpened and possibly also to buy a new pair to try out. Those kangaroos are calling me!
I should have said scissors *have* been on my mind. Sigh. It’s early morning here.
I adore scissors and have many pairs in varying sizes and colours! I am lucky as a very dear friend gave me a pair of Scissaroos a few years ago. They are gorgeous, very sharp and I tend to keep them for best. The same dear friend gifted me this Christmas, a pair of Ringlock scissors. They are fantastic. Very sharp and have a lovely fine point. I can recommend either of these if anyone is thinking of treating themselves to new scissors!
What a wonderful friend, Needlworkers make the bestest of friends.
Thanks to Nicola and Britta, I am now the proud owner of a pair of M Roulet’s cat scissors!
And a particularly lovely pair they are. I was just remembering our shared excitment and pleasure when we received them.
To me they are unique in that they bear JMR’s initials. I still look back on the day when I was presented with them and just so grateful for the arrangements made between Nicola and Britta to obtain them for me ‘behind the scenes’.
The French Needle have some amazingly beautiful scissors. None of them in my collection but I am fortunate enough to have a pair of scissoroos and several of the limited edition Ginghers.
My favorite pair, a pair of gold plated ginhers were a gift from my son …he was 16 and had his first paying job..24 years ago this past Christmas..I seem to smile each time I use them.
Thank you for sharing your favourite pair with us, they are very precious becausee of the spirit in which they were gifted to you.
I decided to treat myself to a ‘special’ pair of scissors this year and I will be buying a pair of Monsieur Roulet’s scissors next month when he attends a needlecraft show in Pexoria, France. It’s lovely to read that he is so well thought of.
