“I am in you and you in me, mutual in divine love”

This vibrant sampler is one of a series of “Little Gems” that are available as a .pdf download from Hands Across the Sea Samplers.

The sampler, designed and stitched by Nicola as a Valentine’s Day gift for her husband, has been inspired by samplers in her private collection. Nicola chose colours that are taken from her husband’s favourite shirt. The focus of the sampler is the sentiment:

Thy love divine that made me thine

Will keep me thine forever

Over the years and centuries, Valentine’s Day has been a religious celebration, an ancient ritual day, and a commercial holiday. All that change means that the meaning of Valentine’s Day is truly whatever you want it to be!

The sampler would also make a gorgeous wedding sampler, a sampler to commemorate a wedding anniversary or just to celebrate love.

Nicola invited a friend, Kathy Born, to take her design and play with different colours and to add her own embellishments.

This is Kathy’s version. We look forward to seeing your version.

The design is suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability. The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 threads and rice stitch. Your version of Thy Love Divine should be whatever you want it to be, so that it reflects your taste and is “yours”. Stitch Guide

The design is suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability. The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 threads and rice stitch.

Cross stitch ~ When working cross stitch, the top stitch should always lie in the same direction for a neat and uniform finish.

Rice stitch ~ Consists of a cross stitch over four threads and then laying a diagonal backstitch over the four ends of the cross stitch in a counter-clockwise order.
Hands Across the Sea Samplers are on hand to help those stitching our charts. If you need assistance or have any questions we can be reached via email, address shown below, or the contact page on our website. Our website has stitching tutorials which can be found in the “sewing basket/tools” section.
