This year Hands Across the Sea Samplers are delighted to offer, as a Little Gem pdf download, four Christmas ornaments ~ Christmas Time, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Peace.

Looking back on 2020, most of us will probably not recall the very first time we heard the word Coronavirus. Why would we? At the end of 2019 it was a problem far, far away. What you will remember though is the moment it became clear that big changes had to be made to how we live our lives. Covid-19 stopped us in our tracks. None of could have come close to imagining how this virus would go on to infect every aspect of our society. Today it is an eerie world of face masks and social distancing.

For me, Christmas is a time of year that I look forward to. Christmas is a time of celebration and festivity around the world. Every individual family has its own holiday traditions, but many have common customs. This year is going to be very different for so many of us.

Markets, fares, carol services, Christmas parties and light switching ceremonies are likely to be cancelled. School Nativity plays may not take place. However, one Christmas tradition that Covid-19 will not stop is the decorating of our homes and Christmas tree.

Today, the Christmas tree has shed most of its religious significance. Having become a fully-integrated cross-cultural winter tradition, families of all faiths around the world await that beloved time of year when they can dust off their decorations once more.

We hope that this year Christmas Time, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Peace will adorn your Christmas tree and bring some Christmas cheer as this unprecedented year ends.

The design is suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability. The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 threads and back stitch. Christmas Time, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Peace have been stitched with a palette of fourteen colours from DMC which are noted below. In this time of supply shortages, the Christmas ornaments have been designed, so that you can pull colours from your own “stash.” You could consider adding beads, charms, or metallic threads to embellish the motifs.

Within this download you will receive:

Thread Legend

Christmas Time, Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and Peace have been stitched with a palette of fourteen colours from DMC which are noted below. In this time of supply shortages, the Christmas ornaments have been designed, so that you can pull colours from your own “stash.” Therefore, no conversions have been supplied. If stitching all four ornaments on 36ct fabric with 2 threads of DMC, one skein should be sufficient.

Stitch Guide

The design is suitable for needleworkers of all levels of ability. The stitches used are cross stitch over 2 threads and back stitch.

Cross stitch ~ When working cross stitch, the top stitch should always lie in the same direction for a neat and uniform finish.

Back stitch ~ When working from your left to the right, bring your needle up at 1 and down at 2, then moving to the right bring your needle up at 3 and go back down at 1. Move to the right and bring your needle up at 4 and go back down at 3.

Hands Across the Sea Samplers are on hand to help those stitching our charts. If you need assistance or have any questions we can be reached via email, address shown below, or the contact page on our website.
