It is such a shame that Alice did not record more personal information on her charming sampler. The scene that she stitched when she was 12 years old depicts the mutual love between children and dogs; it’s timeless! The surrounding autumnal border is delightful and catches the eye.
The model was stitched with Soie 100.3 from Au Ver à Soie using a gorgeous palette of twenty-three colours. We have provided conversions for Soie d’Alger and DMC below. Only one spool or skein of each colour is required when stitching on 14ct Aida through to 56ct linen.
The sampler is executed in cross stitch over two threads and can be worked on Aida or linen. It is rated suitable for beginners through to advanced needleworkers.
The model was stitched on a 56ct Zweigart-based linen that has been overdyed to a shade of Woodsmoke by Tabbycat Linen. The design area is 168 stitches (w) x 127 stitches (h).
The sampler has been painstakingly reproduced by Sandra Moffitt and lovingly stitched by Linda Clews, with the assistance of Baxter, her own loyal companion and lap warmer. At the very core of Hands Across the Sea Samplers there is a team of needleworkers who are passionate about antique samplers and being able to share those samplers with you.
